Conor Miller

Conor Miller has been involved in sustainability on the North Shore since founding Black Earth Compost in 2011, which collects and composts organic waste. In his prior life he was an avid backcountry skier, white water kayaker, and rock climber but now primarily spends his outdoor adventure time surfing. Conor grew up in Mequon Wisconsin, attended Colorado College from 2001-2005, getting a BA in English. He then split his time between: Jackson Hole working at Alpinist Magazine and a Barker-Ewing Rafting; Seattle working for REI and creating a book on ski mountaineering; and lifeguarding Gloucester beaches for a couple summers. Conor moved back to Gloucester permanently in 2010 with his wife and started Black Earth Compost. Black Earth has five collection trucks and pickup food waste from residents to grocery stores across eastern MA. They turn that into high quality compost which is sold in bulk or to garden centers across Eastern MA, with a mission to put food waste back into the soil for future food production.
