This week’s intern spotlight is Alyssa Mahoney!
Alyssa graduated from UMass Amherst in the spring of 2020 where she obtained a B.A. in Communication and a minor in Psychology. During her time there, she explored her interest in sustainability by conducting an independent research project about the relationship between human behavior and sustainable practices. As a child growing up near beaches in Berkley, Massachusetts, Alyssa has always felt a connection to nature. She is glad to be a part of an organization that shares the same passions for sustainability and preserving the natural world.
Alyssa is currently the Blog Lead for Content Generation on the Marketing Team. She is responsible for editing and preparing all of Seaside Sustainability’s blog posts, including submissions from the Marine Science & Education Team and Legislation Team. She chose to intern at Seaside Sustainability because she truly cares for the natural world and wants to do what she can to help the environment. She was amazed by the work of Seaside Sustainability in their mission to protect the marine environment.
Alyssa’s favorite part about working at Seaside Sustainability is all of the passionate people involved in this organization. In high school and further into college, she didn’t feel as though her peers had similar passions for the environment. Alyssa is happy that she joined Seaside Sustainability because she is surrounded by like-minded people each and every day. As the Blog Lead, Alyssa also loves editing blog posts because the Marketing Team’s writers always have something new to teach her about the environment.
In the future, Alyssa plans to continue to pursue a career in environmental conservation with an emphasis in Geographic Information System (GIS). She is interested in meteorology and studying how the earth systems interact with each other. Alyssa is thinking about pursuing a a masters degree in Environmental Management.
Thank you so much Alyssa for all of your contributions to Seaside Sustainability’s blog! The entire team at Seaside Sustainability is confident that your knowledge and passion for the environment will lead you to an incredible career in environmental conservation.
